Penny Racers (Gadget Racers)
Choro-Q Advance, known as Gadget Racers in the United States and Penny Racers in Europe, is a racing video game and the first of two Choro-Q titles released for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance. It brings a unique blend of racing and role-playing elements, often referred to as a “CarPG,” where players customize and upgrade their vehicles for competitive racing.
Gameplay
In Choro-Q Advance, players navigate through five distinct sections of a world map, engaging in various racing events that include traditional races, speed tests, single lap dashes, drag races, and braking tests. Success in these events earns the player money and car parts. These resources can be used to enhance the vehicle’s performance through mechanical upgrades or to alter its appearance with visual customizations like new paint jobs, speedometers, and horn sounds.
The game introduces more complex race types such as battle races, where players can equip their cars with weapons to disable competitors, and races over water, which require the addition of floats to the vehicles. These innovative race types would continue to feature in the sequel.
