Mat Hoffman’s Pro BMX 2
Mat Hoffman’s Pro BMX 2 is a BMX video game released by Activision under their Activision O2 label, featuring endorsement from professional BMX rider Mat Hoffman. This game, a sequel to Mat Hoffman’s Pro BMX, was launched on August 13, 2002, for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, with a Game Boy Advance version developed by HotGen and a GameCube version by Gratuitous Games released on October 8, 2002.
The gameplay mechanics of Mat Hoffman’s Pro BMX 2 are similar to those in Activision’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series. Players aim to perform and chain various BMX tricks to score points. Points are based on the complexity, duration, and uniqueness of each trick, with repetitive use of the same trick diminishing its value. Successfully landing tricks fills up a special meter, which when full, allows players to execute high-scoring signature moves. The game features mechanics like grinds, lip tricks, and manuals to facilitate combo sequences, though failing a trick results in a bail, losing all points for that sequence and resetting the special bar.
The game enhances its predecessor with better graphics, new trick capabilities including flatland maneuvers and a trick-tweaking system, and a balance meter for certain tricks. It also expands its content with more riders, a more extensive career mode, a broader soundtrack, and larger, more interactive game environments.
Players can select from eleven different professional BMX riders, each with unique stats, bikes, and tricks. The game includes eight levels based in various U.S. cities. The Xbox version exclusively features twelve riders and nine levels, with additional rider Chad Kagy and a London level.
