Can I Ever Lose My Salvation?

Don’t listen to anyone who says you must be saved again if you sin after you’ve accepted Jesus as Savior. That’s not what the Bible teaches.

Can you imagine someone telling the adopted child that if he walks on the floor with muddy shoes he’ll be thrown out in the street? No way. We wouldn’t do that. And God isn’t that way either.

When you’re saved, you are adopted into the family of God. The idea that one sin is cause for someone to be thrown out of God’s family is just not biblical (1 John 1:7).

“Anyone born of God does not continue to sin.” (1 John 5:18)

This means that though a Christian may sin, he or she won’t stay in sin, refusing to get right. For anyone who has been saved, born into the family of God through the Holy Spirit, there is something inside them drawing him or her back to God and away from sin every time.

The Apostle John’s words assure us that “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

“Once saved, always saved” isn’t in the Bible, but it is clear that the redemption Jesus Christ gives us is eternal. Nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:31-39).
