I vividly remember standing in my dressing room just minutes before we were supposed to lead worship for hundreds of people – the pre-show music rattling the walls of the room. Tears streamed down my face as I felt the weight of a restless schedule hit me all at once.

“Jesus, just remind me why we do this, why you’ve led me here,” I prayed weakly.

But in that moment, I actually heard His voice speak into my spirit…

“The Spirit of the Lord is on you,
because he has anointed you
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent you to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind.”

I immediately knew that my calling: to tell others the good news. And I can say confidently that it’s your calling too.

I don’t know if you struggle with what your own purpose or calling may be. But judging by the rising popularity of personality tests like Myers Briggs or the Enneagram, it’s evident that we all are dying to know ourselves and know what we should be doing.

But, what if the answer wasn’t all that complex?

If being a Christian means being as much like Jesus as possible, then our calling is our ministry: to emulate the what Jesus did and is doing.

Jesus announced His mission statement right at the start of His ministry. Having picked up a scroll from the prophet Isaiah after walking into a synagogue, Jesus said…

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news…” Luke 4:18

With so much bad news in the world right now, the world needs God’s love and that’s some good news. This is our task, our mission, our anointing.

I don’t know what this means specifically for you, but no matter what we find ourselves doing, we are to do it in such a way that proclaims Jesus and God’s unconditional love.
