New Nature Doc Celebrates God’s Creation

So, I got this email the other day about a new wildlife documentary described as “Disney Earth with a Christian worldview”. Of course, that peeked my interest. (Whenever I take a moment to really see the world around me, I’m completely transfixed by nature. Aren’t you?)

My curiosity getting the better of me, I risked seeing footage of snakes (I HATE SNAKES!) and watched the trailer for The Riot and the Dance, a new cinematic celebration of God’s creation.

Sure enough, the stunning nature video montage included a bit of the fanged creatures that always give me the willies. But, watching the trailer also brought with it a sense that this particular project might be worth viewing, especially as the narrator spoke this line:

“The Word of God is not just in black and red letters on onion skin pages. It’s living and breathing in the mountains, the deserts, and the trees.”

The Bible offers us a chance to have a greater understanding of who God is, but we shouldn’t forsake simply looking outside. God’s creation sings of His greatness, creativity, and power. Creation literally praises Him.

“But ask the animals what they think — let them teach you;
    let the birds tell you what’s going on.
Put your ear to the earth — learn the basics.
    Listen — the fish in the ocean will tell you their stories.
Isn’t it clear that they all know and agree
    that God is sovereign, that He holds all things in His hand…” – Job 12:7-9

Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice!
Let the sea and everything in it shout His praise!
Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy!
Let the trees of the forest sing for joy! – Psalm 96:11-12

Being a fan of hummingbirds (almost as much as I’m not a fan of snakes), I was thrilled to see the documentary also touches on these incredible, tiny winged fliers.

Here’s what the documentary people had to say about their new project:

“Follow along with Dr. Gordon Wilson [a noted biologist, professor, and author] as he traverses our planet, basking in God’s masterpieces. Whether he’s catching wildlife in his own back yard or in the jungles of Sri Lanka, Dr. Wilson celebrates God’s creatures in all shapes, sizes and species. Show-stopping footage and powerful narration will open your eyes to the extraordinary glory found all over the animal kingdom.”

The Riot and the Dance will be in theaters nationwide for ONE NIGHT ONLY on Monday, March 19, 2018.
