“Pray constantly.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Some people think prayer has to be formal, structured, done at set times when you bow or get down on your knees. I don’t think that.

I’ve always talked to God like I’m having a conversation with someone I love. I talk with Him, laugh with Him, even cry with Him. I can do this driving down the road in the afternoon or in a crowd somewhere in the evening. Prayer isn’t limited to certain places or times. There are many nights when I pray on stage, just a short prayer, asking God to give me strength and focus or whatever I need for that time.

In a very real way, I’m always talking to God. That’s reflected in the lyrics of my song, “Me and God”:

Ain’t nobody gonna come between me and God…
He’s my Father
He’s my Friend

Listen to Josh Turner’s new song, “Me and God”:

I’ve had a lot of people tell me that’s their favorite song. I believe that says something about us and what we hope for, even if we miss the mark sometimes. We want to be able to talk to God about anything, anytime, anywhere.

And the truth is, we can. It’s called prayer.
