Excite Bike (NES)

Excitebike is a motocross racing video game developed and published by Nintendo. First released as a side-scrolling racer, the game allows players to control a motocross bike across various tracks. There are two main gameplay modes in “Excitebike”: Selection A, which is a solo time trial run where the player races against the clock, and Selection B, where the player competes against computer-controlled opponents.

The primary goal in both modes is to qualify for the championship race by finishing each preliminary race in third place or better. The controls are straightforward: the A button accelerates, while the B button provides a turbo boost that temporarily increases speed. However, excessive use of the turbo boost can overheat the bike, leading to a mandatory cooldown period during which the bike becomes temporarily immobile. To help manage the bike’s temperature, players can drive over special arrows on the track that cool down the engine instantly.
