The Magnetism of God

Magnetism is a force that can pull closer or push away objects that have a magnetic material inside them. A simple way to say it is that when the magnetic material inside the objects are properly aligned, they attract and stick together, but when thy are not properly aligned, they repel.

Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:20-21). This tells me that we carry the kingdom of God inside of us, and I believe the kingdom within us is continually pulling us closer into alignment with the Father.

It reminds me of the Parable of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15:11-24. Sometimes we wander far off from the heart of Father God, but when we turn and make our way back to Him, He RUNS toward us and spares no expense in rewarding us with His love. Let’s look at this displayed in the parable that Jesus taught:

“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ So, he got up and went to his father.

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.” (Luke 15:11-20)

God’s design is that we are never far away from Him. His desire is that closeness never be separated, so He is always drawing us closer to Him with His goodness (Romans 2:4). No matter how far we feel from God, He is never too far off. The moment we turn to Him, we are pulled like a magnet, immediately into His loving nature.
